Have you ever been inspired by the moon and the stars? I know I have- even though the stars are rather difficult to see here in NY J  During the summer, I love to climb up the fire escape and hang out on the roof- look out at the city and up at the sky- maybe even listen to old school Beastie Boys...   Whether it was the Beastie Boys or outer space, Leitmotiv was inspired too, as you can gather from these galaxy printed fabrics.  Light years have become psychedelic in the designer’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection which is titled “L’ Universo Elegnate”. What do you think of the cats?

Wow, these plunging necklines, wasp waists, and calf hitting flouncy frocks make me retro inspired for spring style.  UlyanaSergeenko is a Russian native who originally began her career as a photographer (which is clear from her unique lookbook) and is now introducing her second collection.  Fall 2011 can be seen here.  The shades of emerald and army green mixed with florals are so lovely.  Also- notice the attention this designer pays to the accessories- the woven cloche, the sheer headscarf, the layered necklace.  This attention to detail is all the more inspiring-so feminine and chic.

the art of layering jewelry

Layering jewelry is a fine art.  It can look really awesome or really tacky depending on how it’s done.  The key here is to focus on one area (neck, wrists, fingers, etc).  Jewelry trends come and go, and certain silhouettes are often more popular than others. I am currently over big earrings and tend to do more arm candy or shiny rings.  That being said, jewelry is always the last step of putting together my outfits and very much depends on what I have chosen to wear on that particular day- some days, this means next to nothing, other days I pile it on. 

Remember:

If you are layering necklaces, wear small studs, and/or just a couple of rings

If you are layering bracelets, limit your rings and stick with simple necklace/earrings combos

If you are layering rings, go without bracelets and sparse around the neck and ear area

Don’t be afraid to mix your metals (BUT….) if you are doing this, do is all over- not just in one area

Combine sleek, smooth metal finishes with your Grandmothers cameo/ vintage and antiqued pieces for a modern hippy look

A really easy DIY project can make my day.  Remember here when I said I wanted to work on actually styling my hair and doing my makeup? Inspired by the runway, Chanel, Rodarte, Thakoon- and inspecting samples at work- I realized these hair accessories are super easy to make.  After a little shopping, I made this comb in literally less than 10 minutes.  Here’s a sneak peek.  Keep checking back for the tutorial!

Hello, 65 degree weather, thanks for stopping by today- I’ve been desperate for some Vitamin D- and my legs, desperate for some fresh air!  Oh how I would love to take today and spend it outside soaking up the sun rather than at my desk staring at the computer screen.  I am happy, however it is the start of Spring and (fingers crossed) the weather will only get warmer- next winter will seeming light years away.  All the ice at Chanel’s show in Paris did however send me a shiver. Sequins, crystals, and jewel toned embellishments proved- yet again- that Mr. Lagerfeld is truly the utmost avant-garde designers when it come to turning his runway shows into true spectacles. One of my dreams would to be in attendance.
