great tips from very...

 The Autumn Wardrobe Guide
Sadly the summer months have transformed into winter - and with the cooler season comes the need for a new wardrobe. Autumn brings with it unpredictable weather conditions, making choosing the right outfit for the day a tricky process.

For anyone struggling to bridge the gap between summer frocks and winter coats, here is the ultimate guide for dressing during the autumn months.

Maxi dresses
Just because the temperature is cooling down, it doesn’t mean you need to say goodbye to your love of dresses. Whether it’s for the office, a night out or casual wear for the day time, there is a great range of dresses currently available on the racks that are suitable for the cooler months.

Maxi dresses are a great option; perfect for warmer days and easy to pair with leggings and denim jackets. A pair of leggings will also make any of your smaller summer frocks wearable for a few more weeks at least.

Leather jackets
Biker grunge is making a comeback. Leather jackets are fast taking over last season’s love of denim and are perfect to pair with floral prints and bright coloured trousers in red or pink.

The key to making the leather jacket work is all in the quality of the product. Steer clear of ‘pleather’ (plastic-leather) and consider it an investment purchase. In terms of shape, avoid the matrix look and opt for a fitted style over length.

Pastels
Pastels are still in fashion, with colour blocking a huge favourite with the high street stores. These loud colours are ideal for the cooler months and help keep a wardrobe bright and fun as the layers begin to pile on.

Don’t be afraid to blend less traditional colour combos; with bright pastel yellows, oranges and pinks all dominating the shelves at the moment. This is a great option for adding some life to the office wardrobe, with a pastel pink or green top or skirt helping you to stand out in the boardroom environment.

Capri cropped trousers
If you’re reluctant to swap the denim shorts for the jeans, the cropped trouser is a great middle ground. These three quarter length items are perfect for creating a chic European style when paired with nautical stripes in the office. Alternatively, cropped trousers are great in bright block colours like cherry red, or fun and funky floral prints. These make a great day to nightwear item and are able to be worn both in the office and on a night out with the right accessories.

Thank you Very for these fantastic style ideas!

lana rocks my world

Seriously. And so does her new song, "Rise" which is part of the the re-release of last year's album 'Born to Die"- an album I have listened to on repeat more times than I would like to admit .  Dude, she is so cool- her style, her music, her energy- she is hot and that just all that needs to be said.

fashion in music history

So of course we know the songs, but don’t you also remember the outfits too? They are almost as legendary as the music, almost.  Check out these geometric images from High Snob.  As you know I am working in a new industry, the music industry, and its so different over here.  There are parties, events, free stuff, lunches (and dinners!) and the people actually like each other, who wudda thunk it?!?  Quite refreshing coming from a very different background in fashion.  And hey- we are still fashionable too!

Last night one of our vendors had a event to celebrate the opening of one of their new East Coast distribution centers.  There were mini crabcakes, shrimp cocktail, cocktails, and tee-shirts. Oh yeah, and Bruce Jenner, you know, Kim and Kourtney's dad- but also the winner of the '76 track and field Olympic Games. He talked about his inspiration, his goals (past and present) among his 10 children and other things.  All-in-all an interesting night with a great view and a great crew.  I love my co-workers!

Have a wonderful weekend- until next week.  Xx

embellish

Anna Duthie is a textile designer specializing in embroidery and embellishments.  I personally love the way she presented her project, "Visualizations" during her time at Glasgow School of Art.   A recent grad, she presents this very geometric, soft and feminine textiles are layered on black and white images.  So innovative- I predict her future is full of opportunity.

Check out her site here.

checks and stripes

Turban, scarfs, prints, patterns- Marc by Marc Jacobs shows it all at the reveal of his Spring collection as part of our wonderful NY fashion week extravaganza. I have to be completely honest- I have not been following fashion week as I usually do because I have been so wrapped up in other things. Gotta love a good runway style.

fallin'

I know NYC Fashion Week is focused on Spring 2013, but I am focused on today, Fall 2012- because, well, it freakin' feels like Fall.  Really though- its a lovely day on the outside.  The fall collection from Zara is also getting me ready for this time of year. It has my name allover it- with its sophisticated rock style. Yup, that’s it.

Happy Fall Y'all
